It is done with the help of websites, which are the backbone of internet. Without websites, there is not internet because websites carry everything that we see today, including this article. There are millions of websites on the internet both for business, and recreational purposes. Due to this high volume of websites, the creators of such web pages need to compete in order to be the best in their niche. So in order to be the best in their niche, web directories are very important.

What is a web directory?
A web directory (or simply “directory”) is the place where you can get one way links or backlinks. This helps the site listed in the directory to be crawled frequently by search engines which then display the website on the respective pages depending on the keyword, relevancy, content and backlinks. Ultimately, this is the main reason why online directories are running successfully. With higher quality of the directories (like DMOZ), the better your website rank will be.
In an online directory, the links are arranged according to the categories available and analyzed & approved by the editor(s), moderator(s) or the owner(s) of the directory.
Online directories are of different types. Some focus on business websites, while others only on blogs. These niche based directories seem to make more profit than directories that accept all websites. Apart from this classification, another class of directories accepts links in for free. Paid directories are of higher quality. Submitting to paid directories requires high budget.
In between the paid and the free directories are the reciprocal link directories. This is one of the most convenient means of exchanging links between the directory and the website. In this type, for the directory to accept link of a website, the website owner should have a link of the directory placed on one of the pages. Another type of directory is the bidding directory where website owners bid for a particular position in the directory. By and large, online businesses benefit the most out of these directories.

Online businesses can target their links to be placed on a business directory. This type of directory is based on the niche and contains only links of online business sites. Since the links are on a directory that deals only with business, a business directory attains quality. This, in turn makes the sites on the business directory to be crawled quicker by search engine bots.
Choosing s business directory is of utmost importance because the quality of the directory affects the quality of the website listed in to too.
On the whole, a web directory is very useful for websites that want to make it to the top of search engines and a business directory is for online business websites that need to stay on top of their competitor in terms of search engine rankings.
